Here’s How to Raise the Bar on Your Entertaining Ambiance

Are you starting to plan entertaining at home again? Inviting friends and family over, whether for major celebrations, casual dinners or watching a game, is one of the joys of life that we can’t wait to get back to. Right now, it’s thoughts of the Summer Olympics or maybe baseball, beer, and relaxing poolside, but it won’t be long before the change of seasons brings cooling temperatures, colorful leaves, and the shift to gathering indoors with good friends to eat good food and watch football.

What better place than a finished basement to huddle with friends and family to relax together and cheer on your favorite team? While you’re at it, consider raising the bar by adding a sophisticated wet bar to up your game.

Just Chill

What’s a bar without plenty of fridge space? Don’t settle for a tiny mini fridge when there are so many options available now. Whatever food and beverages you want to keep in stock for entertaining, there are refrigerator and freezer solutions that will be just right. Choose from wine cabinets (with separate temperature controls for different varietals) to undercabinet fridges-in-a-drawer for snacks to standalone ice makers (because you never have enough ice)!

What’s on Display?

Your lower-level getaway is the perfect place to display any collection that will spark conversation. Behind the bar, install custom cabinets with open shelves to show off your assortment of fine spirits, a spectacular wine rack, and glass-front cabinets for all the barware and glassware you’ll want for serving your guests’ preferred beverages. Top it off with customized cabinetry for proudly displaying your favorite sports memorabilia.

Lighten Up

Before a typical basement is finished, it usually has challenges like low ceilings, small windows, and poor natural light. The more windows that can be added or enlarged, the better. (You get extra points for adding a walk-out door to a patio where you can fire up a grill.) Well-placed recessed ceiling light fixtures supplemented with pendant lights and other task lighting make the space more welcoming. Make sure you add dimmers to give you the choice for how bright or dark you want the room.

Take a Seat

No matter how many friends you invite, you’ll always want comfy seating in front of the TV. And that goes for the bar as well. Have plenty of bar stools lined up for anyone grabbing a drink when there’s a break in the action. There’s seating that will match any décor you choose, from sophisticated leather to  mid-century retro to industrial chic.
