You’ve got mud! We do too, and we’ve also got some advice to help you spruce up your home. Where should you start? If the rain showers that come in the spring also bring more mud into your home, let’s start there. A mudroom!
What better time than right now to design a place at the back door or just inside the door from the garage to manage all the sports equipment, jackets, backpacks, and of course the muddy shoes.
The mudroom has become a must-have space in homes today, and once you have one, you’ll find that keeping your house clean and organized just got a whole lot easier.
The Mud Stops Here
The area can include a locker-style unit for each family member with coat hooks, cubbies, bins, and a bench. Don’t forget a space to store shoes, boots, and soccer cleats. Add an umbrella stand and maybe a mirror for good measure. And the floor needs to be easy-to-clean to withstand a pile of wet, muddy uniforms or jackets that just *might* end up on the floor.
The closer the mudroom is to the laundry room, the better. So, if you have enough space, it’s a great time-saver to blend them together in a single utility room. No more dragging that dirty soccer uniform all through the house.
Guess Who Else is in the Mud?
The best new idea we’ve seen in a long time is a pet-washing station in the utility room where you can hose off and dry Max before he leaves muddy paw prints all over the house. The tiled mini-shower and handheld showerhead designed for the pup are great for washing off muddy human feet too!
Drop It!
When you come through the door, what’s the first thing you look for? A place to put down whatever you’re carrying: bags, keys, sunglasses, dog leash, or your travel mug. That’s why today’s mudrooms usually include a “drop zone” that has a table or small chest, some shelves, and baskets to drop the mail for sorting later.
If one of your goals this year is to spend more time having fun with your family and less time cleaning up after them, you need a mudroom. It will make your life much easier, we promise! Contact us today to make your plan for stopping dirt in its tracks!
